19th Century Dutch Oil Painting in a Gilt Frame(Ref: )
|Quantity||Add to Basket|
A curious little Oil painting on board of three men in what I presume is a Tavern, probably playing a card game or some kind of gambling - up to mischeif anyway going by their faces! The style and the subject are very reminiscent of the 19th Century Dutch Tavern paintings, I suspect this painting to be of that origin.
It is on a very thick, tapered block of wood in thick oil paint, it is quite a dark image. I am guessing it could be cleaned but I would rather not risk that myself.
The frame is a thick gilt wooden frame with red paint showing through in places. It is in good strong condition.
There is some pencil writing on the back which I assume is the date it was purchased at some point in its' history.
Charming little piece.
