Antique Silver Compact with Dog Head enamel made by Dennison Watch Case Co Ltd(Ref: 211)
An interesting little piece made c. 1910 by the Dennison Watch Case Co Ltd, who also made powder compact cases.
This one has a mirror inside - the mirror has had a tough life. This little compact has certainly had a lot of use. The silver behind the mirror is disappearing but there is no actual damage to it.
It opens on a hinge to the back.
It is stamped inside with Dennison Watch Case Co Ltd 3770
On the back there are two letters in a hexagonal shape, looks like DQ
On the front there is an indented design of a dogs head. This was obviously filled at some point with white enamel although there is not much of it left.
On the back you will clearly see that the Hallmark has been worn away. I have tried to show this via a photograph but it's pretty tricky! You'll see when it's yours.
This would be fairly easy to restore and would make a perfect little pill pot, snuff box or trinket case.
It has a diameter of 5cm and is 1.5cm in depth.
