Billiards Scoreboard by George Wright C.1900

A stunning mahogany Life Pool/Billiards Scoreboard by George Wright of London.

This gorgeous little work of art and usefulness comprises of a Billiard score marker with brass runners above and below with slideable brass score markers.  Painted score indicators allow for scores of up to 100 and are adjusted by use of a circular brass knob on the side of the scoreboard.

The center section has a lockable glass door (with working lock and key) which opens on a right hand side hinge. Inside there are 3 shelves and a bottom layer for Balls (which are not included with this scoreboard)

To each side of the glass door, there are six wooden slides with the name of a colour hand painted on each.  The player of Life Pool would be allocated a colour and would slide out the wooden section to reveal 3 stars or in this case, circles.  These would represent the 3 lives of each player.  The last remaining player would win, and therefore pick up the 'pool' of money that had been placed as a bet. This, incidentally is where the name Pool came from which is commonly played today.

George Wright & Co had Royal Appointment to the King and Queen and to the Prince of Wales.  The company regularly attended World Exhibitions and won 21 prize medals and 2 Gold medals by 1900.

George Wright was Knighted in 1926 - not for the scoreboard......but for going on to manufacture Bricks and he became a Justice for the Peace as well as an Alderman to the Count of Middlesex.  Quite a man I think!
