Indonesian Wedding Dowry Chest with Mother of Pearl inlay(Ref: 1079)
|Quantity||Add to Basket|
Traditionally made in India and often called a 'Shirazi' chest due to its Persian influence, such wedding Dowry chests would have been filled with items to set up home with, usually doubling up as a piece of furniture in itself. Gorgeously Bohemian, perfect for that Boho look, early 20th century in date.
Beautiful handmade chests, not only do are they intricately carved but they are also inlaid with geometric shapes and organic flower representaions in Mother of Pearl.
There is a keyhole but the lock has been removed at some point in its' history. On the outside of each edge there is a brass handle.
There is a crack in the wood along the top at the back, caused by two nails that are original. This does not seem to have affected the structure - it all feels solid.
