Absolutely gorgeous WMF calling card dish featuring a young woman at a lily pond being circled by a snake.
WMF - I'm sure you've heard it if you watch Antiques Roadshow or Roadtrip etc....
A German firm that began as a metalware producer in the mid-19th Century - by 1900 it had grown to be the World's largest producer and exporter of household metalware due to its' Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) design.
It is still trading today but mainly in coffee machines and hotel equipment - a far cry from the beautiful designs of the Art Nouveau period.
The WMF stands for Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, pioneers of Art Nouveau metalware.
This dish is stamped on the verso with 'B WMF (with stork mark) as' and the number 249
